SECOND FIDDLE (Advent 7 - Saturday)

LUKE 1: 16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

“But he ate bugs!” To some children that is all they remember of John the Baptist. To the mature believer, we know who John was. He prepared the way for his cousin, Jesus the Christ.

Sometimes, that’s a problem for us. We want to be the main act, not the warm-up band. But, oh my friends, to be”one-degree” from God is a blessing beyond anything the world has to offer, and more than we can ever imagine in our finite mind. Service to God has no ranking order. Service is service. Will you not serve the Lord today in whatever way He directs? Let us pray:

“God of the universe, Creator of all that is Life, Holy is your name. May your kingdom come in our life this day. We ask you to give us any job you would choose, for we would rather scrub the floors under your table than not be invited to the banquet. Forgive us when we think we deserve recognition. Let only you be seen wherever we go. Give us our own unique task to do for you and let us remember there is no rank in the army of God. We ask all these things in the name of your son Jesus, the Christ Child. Amen”
