WHAT IS YOUR JERUSALEM?

"As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem." Luke 9: 51 (NIV) "Jesus set his face like flint toward Jerusalem, caught up in his vocation as Messiah."

We all have our Jerusalem, a consequence of the great cause for which we live. A friend said she wished she didn’t have to write the book she is working on. That was my feeling when I wrote, Length of Days - The Age of Silence. I know there will be those who will rile against some of the Christian-based concepts in the book. But, I wrote it because I obeyed God and followed through on the cause for which I was called.

You too have a Jerusalem. While Jesus began his walk to the Holy City, even though he knew what awaited him there, he still went. He didn’t drag his feet as he shuffled along unwillingly. He was resolute! He fixed his face like flint!

We have to understand our mission before we can cast it in stone and face our destiny with eyes of flint. With every successful book, there is a sequel to be written and critics to face. For every educational goal, there are doubting family members and some who would not want you to gain success above their own. For every child there is to rear, there are those who claim this great calling is not worth your time and energy. For every step of faith, there are those who say you have no right to speak up or speak out because you are no better than they. Of course we aren’t. Jesus, whose way we follow, is the only one worthy of praise.

Lift up the Lord Jesus Christ and the cause for which you were called, not your own personality, and God’s kingdom will have another paving stone for the walk that leads others home. Let us pray:

"Father of our Lord whose way to the cross has begun, we praise your name and seek your will. We too have our own walk to Jerusalem, not with the consequences that awaited Jesus but consequences still. We choose to fix our eyes on the cause you have given us. Others may try to define us, but it is your image we seek. Forgive us when we let others hold us back from doing your will in order to satisfy their own needs. Fill us with your Holy Spirit that we may follow the Lord who dwells within. In the name of Jesus, our Savior, I pray. Amen"
